LICADD is honored to partner with Supervisor Panico and Brookhaven Town Department of General Services Youth Bureau Division to offer a new workshop called Mindfulness Matters: A Preventive Approach to Youth Substance Abuse on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Funded by the Suffolk County Opioid Settlement Grant, the workshop will be presented by LICADD Executive Director Steve Chassman. It is open to anyone interested in youth mental health and substance abuse prevention and offers 2.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for mental health professionals, pending approval.

Participants will learn how to use mindfulness techniques to:

  • Be aware of thoughts and feelings
  • Manage stress, anxiety, and negative emotions
  • Build emotional resilience and tolerate discomfort without using substances
  • Increase self-compassion and non-judgmental acceptance

The program will be held on July 22, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., both virtually via Zoom and in person at Brookhaven Town Hall, located at 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville. A light breakfast will be served. Space is limited, and registration is required.
