Caryn M. Hirshleifer, an attorney who practiced in the fields of employment and constitutional litigation, currently serves as Vice President and General Counsel of Hirshleifers Inc., a fifth-generation, family-owned and operated business founded by her great-grandfather in Brooklyn in 1905. Prior to that, she worked as an attorney in various capacities for the City of New York, handling general litigation in the New York City Corporation Counsel’s Office and serving as General Counsel to both the New York City Fire Department and Mayor Koch’s Office on Homeless Services. Caryn has also served as an adjunct professor at LIU Post, where she taught Fashion Law to undergraduate students.
In 2024, Caryn published In the Face of Catastrophe: How a Traumatic Brain Injury Became a Blessing, a book she co-authored with her daughter, Jennifer, following Jennifer’s devastating traumatic brain bleed in 2021.
Philanthropy is an important part of her life, and she has served on the LICADD Board of Directors since 1988. She has participated in two rebuilding efforts in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina and is involved in numerous other charitable activities.
Caryn is married to David T. Goldman, MD, whom she met while attending Brandeis University in the 1970s. She has two daughters, Jennifer and Amanda, and spends her leisure time writing, reading, and playing electric bass with high school students, professional musicians, and others who are young at heart.
