Joel Sikowitz is a longtime attorney, community leader, musician, and philanthropist whose lifelong commitment to public service has made a lasting impact across Long Island.
A graduate of Northport High School, Joel served honorably in the U.S. Army before pursuing higher education at Hofstra College and earning his law degree from Brooklyn Law School. In 1962, he married his wife, Toby, and opened his private law practice in Babylon, beginning a distinguished legal career that has spanned more than six decades.
Throughout his career, Joel practiced both independently and in partnership, served as counsel to a private company, and, in 1991, was appointed Babylon Village Attorney. He held that position for 27 years, providing trusted legal counsel and dedicated public service to the Village of Babylon.
Alongside his legal career, Joel cultivated a parallel career as a professional musician and bandleader. Through the Joel Sikowitz Orchestra, he has brought people together for countless community events and charitable fundraisers, combining his passion for music with his commitment to giving back.
Since 2001, Joel has played a significant role in supporting hunger relief efforts on Long Island by helping raise funds to provide more than 22,000 tons of turkeys and accompanying holiday meals distributed through The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) to individuals and families in need.
Joel’s relationship with LICADD began in 2014 when he met the late Curt Webster, a devoted supporter of the organization. After the Joel Sikowitz Orchestra performed at LICADD’s annual fundraiser, Curt introduced Joel to Al Devendorf, Jeff Capazzi, and Bill Baun, who invited him to join LICADD’s Executive Board. Since then, Joel has remained an active and dedicated board member, helping advance LICADD’s mission to prevent and address substance use through education, prevention, treatment, and recovery support.
Joel and Toby have been married for more than six decades and are the proud parents of three children, three wonderful children-in-law, and six grandchildren. They have called Long Island’s South Shore home for more than 60 years and remain deeply committed to serving the community they love.
